Serving a cause higher than yourself is a goal that author and Navy veteran Mike Schindler believes most US veterans possess.
“When you add someone to your team who feels it’s not about himself, but who is rooted in something bigger and is confident that efforts will succeed because of the team you have — that’s powerful,” he says.
They’ve got grit.
“Those who have had a significant life-changing event — like feeling as though they’ve been on the brink, or to hell and back — are able to understand and navigate through things that aren’t vital or don’t matter at the end of a day. They bring something to a team that those who have not experienced something bigger cannot. As a result, this helps the team perform better.”
