After living “in a bush” on and off for the last decade, Army veteran Chris Thomas, 55, is hopeful that he’ll have a proper place of his own to call “home” soon.
Thomas was one of nearly dozen military veterans seeking housing during a Housing Resource Day for Veterans at the South Napa Shelter on Thursday. The event is part of a larger mission to end homelessness in Napa County. A partnership between Napa County Health and Human Services, Queen of the Valley Medical Center, Community Action Napa Valley, Ole Health and other community- based organizations is starting with veterans.
JoAnn Melgar, staff services analyst with Napa County Health and Human Services, said the plan to help homeless veterans first was approved by the Continuum of Care board in March.
