16 veterans face fraud charges for VA travel vouchers

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Asheville says 16 veterans are accused of submitting fraudulent travel vouchers for reimbursement.

The charges involve travel to and from the Charles George Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Asheville. Some veterans are reimbursed for mileage incurred between their home and the medical center.

The charges accuse the 16 of submitting travel vouchers overstating that mileage.

Two of the veterans named are from South Carolina, and one is from Texas. The other 13 are from North Carolina.
