It’s the kind of work that held a life-long interest for Johnny Grant. “I’ve actually always been interested in electronics, communications, everything in between,” Grant said.
The Army veteran finally got that chance two years ago, through a program designed to help veterans find work in a growing Colorado industry.
“It’s very good for veterans. It gets them back to work,” Grant said. “If they are not working, but under-employed, it gets them a better career.”
The program is a partnership between Blackfox Technical Institute in Longmont and Littleton-based Lockheed Martin Space Systems. Lockheed had jobs, but trouble filling them.
“There was a high demand for those positions here at the company and the Denver manufacturing talent pool was very limited at best,” said Richard Toya, Lockheed Martin’s Electronics Manufacturing Supervisor, who also helps oversee the program.
