Stand Down marks four years of helping veterans

Stand Down

The fourth annual Santa Barbara County Veterans Stand Down drew veterans in need of goods and services from across the county to Santa Maria Fairpark on Saturday.

Fifth District Supervisor Steve Lavagnino, whose office coordinates the event, said that it ran smoothly, thanks largely to 500 volunteers.

“It gets easier every year,” Lavagnino said. “And thanks to the community, we’ve got a lot of resources.”

A large contingent from Vandenberg Air Force Base joined the volunteers.

“This is typical,” Lavagnino said, pointing to two airmen helping a veteran with his supplies.

Santa Barbara Army veteran Glenn Bennett came to the Stand Down for the second straight year. He didn’t need much, but did get some clothing.
