Bids go out for work at West Haven’s Veterans Memorial Field, as parents demand completion date

The city Thursday put out to bid the project to improve facilities at Veterans Memorial Field, prompting officials to express hope that the bids fall within the $500,000 budget.

But one West Haven Seahawks parent said she’ll believe it when she sees it.

The city ran ads in the New Haven Register seeking bids for what now has been split into two projects;one to build locker rooms, bathrooms and a league office in an existing former parks maintenance building, and one to run water and sewer lines in from Bull Hill Lane.

The invitations to bid were published the same day two parents from the West Haven Seahawks/Ray Tellier Youth Football League dropped off petitions signed by 322 people decrying delays in getting the work done and demanding to know a completion date.
