UNL will open resource center for military veterans

The center will provide academic and transition coaching and peer mentors.

Michelle Waite, assistant to the chancellor for community relations, said in a press release that the university takes veterans’ needs very seriously.

“We realize that our veteran students enrich our campuses by providing a very different perspective, based on their military experience — even though many student veterans may be the same age as other college students,” Waite said.

The center will assist veterans and their dependents with services including academic support, admissions counseling, mentoring and career placement. It also will be a place for student veterans and military service members to communicate and network, according to UNL.
