Wawa partnership helps veterans find civilian jobs

Wawa’s corporate offices welcomed 25 veterans Friday morning for an open house in partnership with the Greater Philadelphia Veterans Network.

The convenience store chain’s Veterans Alliance team offered insight into how best to transition from the military into civilian employment.

“The Wawa family includes quite a few veterans that are great leaders,” Wawa CEO Christopher Gheysens said. “You can tell those that have a military background. The word that comes to mind to describe them is ‘impressive.’”

Gheysens said that the company is always looking for talented employees both at the store level and at corporate, and to that end, recruiters were available to talk to attendees throughout the day. While Wawa doesn’t have a formal veteran recruitment program, Gheysens said that the creation of the Veterans Alliance, made up of veteran and non-veteran employees, showed the company’s intrinsic dedication to service members.
