Texas and the nation continued to see unemployment rates for veterans decline last year thanks to a better economy and programs specializing in helping vets get hired.
Overall, there were 21.2 million veterans nationwide in 2014. Texas was home to the second most veterans (1.6 million), after California’s 1.8 million. About half of all veterans are employed.
Texas’ jobless rate for veterans fell to 4.1 percent last year from 5.2 percent in 2013, according to annual averages released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The latest rate compared with 5 percent for the state’s total population.
Nationally, veterans’ jobless rate fell to 5.3 percent from 6.6 percent in 2013. The latest rate compared with 6.2 percent for the U.S. population.
