State’s veterans cemetery sees demand to expand

Retired U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ernie Tucker hopes to hear soon that he’ll have a special spot, with his thousands of Granite State military brothers and sisters, among the graves at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery.

Tucker, 77, who is now the commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter 1698 in Franklin, is among the growing number of veterans in the state looking to be interred in the 104-acre cemetery.

When he gets word that his burial space in the cemetery has been secured, Tucker says he, too, will feel secure.

“It will be the best news, I want to be with to be with so many others who served when I go,” he said. “I’m hoping I hear soon from the cemetery. My brother and his wife already have their spots there.”
