What started out as a way to fuel economic growth in Grand Traverse County has now turned into an effort to help area veterans.
County leaders are using what’s been named “Project Cherry Tree,” to find out what veterans need most when it comes to things like healthcare, job opportunities and education.
It’s a model that the United States Department of Veterans Affairs could adopt and use for the whole country.
The project began in April, while County Administrator, Tom Menzel was looking at ways to improve the economy in the area. During that time, it was discovered that the VA was also looking to make some changes.
