Grand Strand veterans looking for work can get some advice on resume writing and job hunting at a workshop next week.

The event will take place on Feb. 18 from 4-6 p.m. in Building 300 of Horry Georgetown Technical College’s Conway campus.

The program, sponsored by U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., includes sessions on interviewing skills, job training, resume crafting and small business operations. The event is free and preregistration is not required.

“They have the military experience and a lot of times they’re unsure how to include that [in a resume],” said April Garner, who works in HGTC’s Career Resource Center. “The idea is to make sure that the skills and talents that a veteran has shine through.”

For veterans who recently served in Iraq and Afghanistan, Garner said the workshop will offer key insights about their educational options as they consider post-military careers. “These topics are very pertinent to them,” she said, “especially the ones who are returning to school.”
