South Jersey park to become vendor space for veterans

By summer, motorists driving Route 47 in Maurice River Township on their way to the shore will have a new excuse to stop and shop an all-purpose veterans’ flea market.

A group of veterans will set up shop at the Maurice River Township Veterans Vendors Park to peddle their homemade merchandise on a now-vacant parcel along Route 47.

The park, a partnership between the township and the state Department of Environmental Protection, will have its official ribbon-cutting ceremony May 16, before the summer season.

“I think people will come,” Deputy Mayor Patti Gross said. “I think people tend to buy things from a veteran because they know these guys sacrificed a lot for us. For people to reach out and remember them, they’re very grateful for it.”
